If you have made the choice to replace your missing teeth with dental implants, you have made a wise investment in your oral health. Dental implants are a lifelong solution to treat tooth loss, offering over a 95% success rate. To benefit from dental implants, you will need an implant specialist to perform your multi-phased treatment. At Lansdowne Family Dental, we provide the entire treatment process for dental implants in Lansdowne in our office. From start to finish, we will perform all steps of the procedure for convenience and peace of mind.
If you are ready to restore your smile with dental implants, you will need to schedule a consultation with your dentist in Lansdowne to ensure you are a candidate for the procedure. In most cases, as long as you have healthy gums and enough bone density to support the implants, you are a candidate. However, we will need to access your risk for implant failure. The biggest risk for implant failure involves infection. Therefore, we will review your medical history and lifestyle habits to ensure your risk for failure is minimal.
After your consultation, we will create a customized treatment plan using a clinical examination and diagnostic images to ensure the proper placement of the implant posts.
The first phase of treatment involves the surgical placement of the implants. The gum tissue will be opened to expose the jawbone. Then, the implant posts will be precisely drilled into the jawbone and the gum tissue will be sutured closed. Over the course of the next several months, your jawbone will naturally fuse to the biocompatible posts to replace the tooth roots while offering a secure foundation for the dental crowns.
After your jawbone has healed, you will undergo a second minor surgery to attach abutments to the implant posts. The gum tissue will be reopened to expose the tops of the implant posts. Then, abutments are attached and the gum tissue will be closed around the abutments. The abutments allow the gum tissue to heal correctly for a natural look while also anchoring the dental crowns to the implant posts.
In about two weeks, after the abutments are placed, you will undergo the final phase of treatment. Custom-made, all-ceramic dental crowns are attached to the implant posts via the abutments. Since the crowns are ceramic, they offer a natural appearance without causing a dark shadow over the tooth.
Once your entire procedure is complete, you will need to properly care for the implants with home oral hygiene to ensure an infection does not develop. In addition, you will need to visit our office regularly for preventive care.
